active 2 weeks agoSOILCARE ADRION aims to enhance soil and water preservation in the Adriatic-Ionian region by establishing a transnational system for data-driven monitoring, open-access data sharing, and actionable farmer advisory services.
The project will introduce innovative, cost-effective field-based tools and standardized methodologies for a continuous, participatory monitoring of soil degradation processes, including erosion and fertility decline, across diverse landscapes. These efforts will be combined with harmonized data collection campaigns, to establish baselines and enable a long-term understanding of soil health dynamics. Collected data will feed into a shared digital platform for storing, visualizing, and integrating soil and water information from field measurements and existing databases.
Building on this infrastructure, SOILCARE ADRION will deliver a mobile and web-based Soil Enhancement App that provides location-specific guidance to farmers and advisors on improving soil health. The App will cover recommendations adapted to local soil types, climate, and degradation threats (e.g., salinization, compaction, loss of biodiversity). It will also include irrigation management advice, particularly focused on the safe use of treated wastewater in water-scarce areas, helping to balance productivity with environmental safety.
We are looking for partners from the Adriatic region, particularly public bodies, research organizations, environmental agencies, who are interested in organizing and executing soil sampling and analysis campaigns. Partners will also support data harmonization efforts, test the app’s guidance tools in pilot sites, and contribute to the open data ecosystem feeding into EU-level platforms such as the Agriculture Data Space and EU Soil Observatory (EUSO).
