Short Description: WEDinHERIT aims to transform intangible cultural heritage into a driver of sustainable and innovative tourism by focusing on traditional wedding customs across participating countries. The project reinterprets and digitizes wedding-related music, dances, rituals, crafts, and gastronomy to create immersive, cross-border cultural tourism experiences. Each partner will showcase its unique wedding traditions through digital storytelling, cultural events, and innovative tourism services.
General Objectives:
• Develop new cultural tourism products based on traditional wedding customs
• Bridge heritage preservation with innovation and sustainable tourism
• Engage local communities, youth, artisans, and creatives in reinterpretation of customs
• Foster intercultural dialogue and knowledge exchange through shared heritage
• Use digital tools (AR/VR, gamification, e-learning) to reach broader audiences
Indicative Thematic Focus per Country (examples only):
• Serbia: Wedding traditions from Vojvodina and Central Serbia – music, folk costumes, circle dance
• Greece: Island-style wedding rituals and myths – VR/AR immersive experiences
• Albania: Highland wedding customs – collective rituals and traditional crafts
• Italy: Sicilian and Tuscan weddings – gastronomic culture and music
• Bosnia and Herzegovina: Multicultural wedding heritage – Islamic, Orthodox, Catholic customs
• Croatia: Coastal and inland traditions – tamburitza music, folk games
• Montenegro: Rural mountain and coastal ceremonies – traditional songs and costumes
• Slovenia: Alpine weddings and wine country traditions – seasonal rites and green practices
Key Activities:
• Research and document wedding traditions (oral history, multimedia collection)
• Create the “WEDinHERIT Digital Archive” – a multilingual open access platform
• Organize themed pilot events and festivals in each partner country
• Develop innovative tourism services: VR weddings, e-guides, interactive exhibitions
• Train young people and cultural actors in digital tools and heritage interpretation
• Promote cross-sector cooperation and policy advocacy for heritage-based tourism

• Digital platform and mobile app (WEDinHERIT)
• Transnational Guidebook: “Weddings as Heritage Tourism”
• 8 pilot events and cultural routes
• VR/AR content, podcasts, short documentaries
• Policy paper for integrating traditional customs into regional S3 strategies

• Revitalization and valorization of intangible cultural heritage
